Qazigund: A massive forest fire has erupted in Nagras area of Qazigund in south Kashmir’s Anantnag on Saturday, officials said.
An official was quoted as saying by a news agency that a massive fire started this afternoon and spread vast forest area in Nagras village.
Notably, J&K Disaster Management Authority had warned about extreme fire risk in forest areas in the next 7 days.
The backdrop of this warning is the ongoing heat wave gripping Kashmir, with temperatures rising steadily.
The combination of high temperatures, low humidity, and dry conditions has significantly increased the risk of wildfires in forested areas.
The JKDMA’s advisory underscores the importance of vigilance and early reporting to prevent the spread of fires, which can cause extensive damage to the environment, wildlife, and property.

It had requested people to report the incident (if any) on 112 for prompt response.
