KVK Ganderbal holds workshop on fish nutrition

Srinagar: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir held a mega awareness workshop-cum-training program on ‘Fish Nutrition and Feeding’ at National Fish Seed Farm, Mansabal.
The workshop was organised by SKUAST-K’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra Ganderbal in collaboration with the line department. The program provided valuable insights into the formulation of quality fish feed, feeding strategies and the importance of nutrition for the prevention of diseases in fish. The program was presided over by the Head KVK Ganderbal and Chief Project Officer NFSF, Dr Ishfaq Abidi.
He gave a comprehensive overview of the scope and significance of the Fisheries Sector in the district and emphasized that this sunrise sector has the potential to address the problems of unemployment and low income among the youth of Ganderbal. He further apprised the gathering about the importance of nutrition in aquaculture and the importance of quality feeds to ensure optimum health and well-being of fish.
In the first technical session, Head, Division of FNB, Prof Oyas A Asimi, gave a detailed and exhaustive lecture about the formulation and manufacture of quality fish feed. Further, Dr Nahida Wani, CPO, NFSF Manasbal, gave an overview of the NFSF Manasbal and Mohd Aslam presented a detailed overview of the Trout Feed Mill at Manasbal. Dr Shaheen Farooq, Scientist KVK Ganderbal gave a detailed lecture about Nutrition vis-a-viz Diseases in fish. The participants were taken on a field visit across the campus which was enlightening & encouraging for them. The session concluded with an interaction cum Feedback Session, wherein participants raised significant queries related to Fish Nutrition, which were deliberated on by Scientists & Officers.
