Community plantation drive held at Birla Open Minds International school Pampore

PAMPORE: Awareness cum plantation distribution and Community plantation drive held at Birla Open Minds International school BOMIS) Pampore area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday.
Birla Open Minds International School, Pampore initiated a novel idea of plantation Community Plantation drive cum distribution of Saplings amongst school childrens of BOMIS Pampore in association with Forest department and Social Forestry department.
The programme was organised by Birla Open Minds International school Pampore in collaboration with Forest department and Social forest department, MOMIS Pampore management told Kashmir Reader.
Abdul Aziz Mir Chairman BML Welfare Trust was chief guest of the event.
The event was also attended by a number of renowned dignitaries including Abdul Aziz Mir Chairman BML Welfare trust, G. M. Lone, General Secretary BML Welfare Trust, Manzoor Ahmad Wangnoo Chairman NLCO and Bilalia Educational Institute),
Environmental Lawyer Nadeem Qadri, Adv Nadeem Qadri and others.
The programme was attended by Conservator forest South Circle Irfan Ali Shah, Regional director social forestry Mehraj Ud Din Malik, DFO Awantipora Waseem Farooq,
Manzoor Ahmad DFO Social Forestry Manzoor Ahmad , Environmental Lawyer Nadeem Qadri, Adv Nadeem Qadri and other various officials of the department.
About one thousand school childrens of the BOMIS Pampore participated during the Community plantation distribution.
Nearly 1000 saplings were distributed to students of the BOMIS Pampore.
The plantation drive was also held in the premises of the school.
The forest department officials along with BOMIS Pampore management planted a number of trees. They marked the saplings with their name plates.
” Today we are at Birla International School Pampore, we have a programme with students for conservation of environment, conservation of forests,” conservator South Circle Irfan Ali Shah told Kashmir Reader, adding that planting trees is one of the derivables for them.
He said that they have to educate students on forests and sensitize them about the environment.
He told Kashmir Reader that they sensitized the students and the teachers about the advantages of having forests.
” The Pampore area will be brought on the map of ecotourism and the forest department is working hard in this direction,” he said, adding that a biodiversity park will also be developed.
The awareness programmes are going on and will continue in future.
“Today we held a community plantation drive in a better way, we have 1000 students who were awarded by experts on importance of plants, trees,” G M Lone general secretary BOMIS Pampore told Kashmir Reader, adding that parents of the students were informed that they will come home with a plant.
He said that the child will be received by the parents.
He added that the child will dig a pit and the parent will then plant the tree in the pit.
” This will be an emotional thing because the parent will come to know that this is my son’s plant,” he said, adding that they have given a new concept to the forest department.
He added that the plants were provided to them by the social forestry department.
