One-day workshop on administrative skills for Principals of Degree Colleges held at GDC Pampore

PAMPORE: A One Day Workshop on ‘Administrative Skills for Principals/faculty of various Degree Colleges of Kashmiri Division’ was conducted by the College Debates and Seminars Committee in collaboration with the Department of Economics. The resource persons for the event were Dr Yaseen Shah, Former Director Colleges and Mohamad Ashraf Malik, Ex- Joint Director Finance J&K. It was attended by participants which included Principals and Senior faculty from different colleges of Kashmir region. Also Faculty members from the college and students participated in the Workshop.
The event was coordinated by Dr Iqbal Malik and Dr Huzaifa Pandit (Members, Debates and Seminars Committee) who also served as the Moderator and Rapporteur respectively of the event, GDC Pampore Pampore officials told Kashmir Reader.
The technical assistance was provided by Prof Ashaq Hussain, HoD Geography.
The Workshop commenced with a brief note of welcome by the moderator Dr Iqbal Malik followed by a rendition of the college tarana. Following the rendition, the formal introductory and welcome address was delivered by the Principal GDC Pampore Prof Dr Huda Galzai.
In her address, the Principal accorded a warm welcome to the guests, and outlined the scope and relevance of the programme. She highlighted that higher education entails not just a grounding in academia, but also a good grasp of administrative matters especially for senior faculty.
The workshop, she pointed out, is aimed precisely at addressing this need and intends to reinforce the administrative skills of the Principals/Faculty of various colleges.
The welcome address was followed by a brief felicitation ceremony where the Resource Persons were felicitated with tokens of appreciation by the Principal and senior faculty.
The first technical session followed next.
The first Technical Session was held by Prof Yaseen Ahmad Shah, Former Director Colleges.
Commencing his talk on ‘Administrative Skills in Higher Education’, he reiterated that his talk will purely be based on his experience as an administrator and started by outlining the two styles of administration authoritarian and authoritative. The former can be alluring but a better way, he highlighted is a collaborative authoritative approach with stakeholders which ensures a cordial and participatory style of working.
