SRINAGAR: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has informed the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) that the mortal remains of a youth from Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri area, who tragically passed away in Saudi Arabia, will be repatriated to India within the next two days.
In a statement, the National Convener of the Association Nasir Khuehami said that the MEA, in formal communication to the JKSA, informed that, “We are working closely with the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia to ensure that all necessary procedures are completed promptly. The mortal remains of the deceased will be flown back to India within two days.”
The youth, identified as Mohd Kabir, originally from the Khawas area of Rajouri district, had been working in Saudi Arabia as a driver for the past two years, holding a valid Indian passport numbered N77793878. Unfortunately, he met with a tragic accident while working there.
Khuehami said that, “We have received communication from the External Affairs Ministry regarding the transportation of the mortal remains of the late Mohd Kabir to India from Saudi Arabia. The MEA has taken cognizance of this matter and has been actively following up to expedite the process. We have been assured that all necessary assistance will be rendered for the transportation of the mortal remains to India. The family of the deceased has been advised to forward their notarized consent for this purpose.
He added that after the completion of formalities, including family consent for transportation and a notarized affidavit, the embassy has issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) today (June 3, 2024) and handed it over to the family’s attorney, Mohd Shafiq, for completing other formalities for the dispatch of the mortal remains to India. The Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia has sent a communication to the Association in this regard. Mohd Shafiq, in coordination with the sponsor company, will be completing the necessary local formalities (police clearance, final exit, embalming, cargo booking, etc.).
Khuehami emphasized that upon completion of all local formalities and confirmation of cargo booking, the airline authorities will contact the family of the deceased in India directly for their consent to receive the mortal remains and also convey the flight details.
He added, “The Embassy has assured us that they will continue to follow up on the matter and will extend all necessary assistance for the early dispatch of the mortal remains to India. This timely intervention will bring some solace to the grieving family and help them perform the last rites of their loved one with dignity, he further added.
