J&K Police’s Cyber Cell busts online fraud scams, recovers lost phones in Ganderbal

GANDERBAL: The Cyber Cell of Jammu and Kashmir Police in Ganderbal district announced on Saturday that they have successfully resolved multiple online fraud cases.
SSP Ganderbal Sandeep Gupta, during a press conference, revealed that the Cyber Cell had addressed online money scam frauds and placed holds or liens on sums of Rs 6,20,000 and refunded Rs 39,900 to victims’ accounts. Additionally, they have recovered 16 missing or lost smart cell phones worth lakhs of rupees.
Since its establishment on 21-02-2024, the Cyber Cell Ganderbal has been proactive in handling grievances from the general public, receiving numerous applications and reports about various online money scams and missing cell phones through the online Cyber Crime Portal and offline modes.
SSP Gupta highlighted the comprehensive approach taken by the dedicated police team in dealing with cyber-crimes, which has resulted in significant successes, including the recovery of six hacked social media accounts (Facebook and WhatsApp). The team comprises executive police officials and telecom officials, who are well-trained to handle various financial frauds such as KYC update frauds, OLX frauds, PDD frauds (pending electricity bill frauds), investment-related frauds, fake loan app frauds, and social media blackmailing.
The SSP urged the public to exercise caution and avoid sharing personal details like bank account information and OTPs, stressing the importance of vigilance to prevent falling victim to such scams.
The swift and effective actions of the Cyber Cell Ganderbal have been widely appreciated and applauded by the community, underscoring the unit’s commitment to protecting the public from financial and social media frauds.
The Cyber Cell Ganderbal recovered and refunded Rs 39,900 to a victim’s account, placed holds or liens on Rs 6,20,000 in scam-related transactions, traced and recovered 16 missing or lost smart cell phones, and recovered six hacked social media accounts.
