Omar Abdullah urged to contest Ganderbal seat amid NC leaders’ rally

GANDERBAL:- National Conference (NC) leaders, including Member Parliament Mian Altaf and Aga Ruhullah Mehdi, have appealed to Omar Abdullah to contest the Ganderbal assembly seat.
This appeal comes after Abdullah’s defeat in the Baramulla constituency in North Kashmir, where he lost to independent candidate Er Rashid. During a rally in the Ganderbal district of central Kashmir hundreds of locals gathered to welcome NC leadership, and youth activist Sayem Mustafa joined the National Conference in the presence of party vice president Omar Abdullah
Abdullah had previously stated that he would not contest elections under the present structure, citing that the powers of the assembly “have been downgraded to that of a municipality”.
However, regarding his candidature from Ganderbal, he said, “The party will decide after due consultations with the workers of the Ganderbal assembly segment.” This indicates that Abdullah may consider contesting the Ganderbal seat if the party decides to field him.
Mian Altaf and Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi’s appeal to Abdullah to contest the Ganderbal seat suggests that the party is looking to strengthen its position in the assembly segment. Abdullah’s decision to contest or not will be crucial in determining the party’s strategy for the upcoming elections.
