DMO Pulwama seizes vehicles, JCBs during crackdown on illegal mining

PAMPORE: In a significant move to curb illegal mining activities in Pulwama district, District Mineral Officer (DMO) Er Mohammad Manzoor has seized multiple vehicles and JCBs used in unauthorized mining and transportation of raw materials in the region over the past 24 hours.
According to officials, a team from the Geology and Mining department, under the leadership of DMO Er Mohammad Manzoor, confiscated five vehicles and two JCBs involved in illegal mining and transportation of raw materials during recent raids conducted in Pulwama district.
Speaking to Kashmir Reader, DMO Pulwama stated that the raids targeted various areas, including Panjran Lasipora, resulting in the seizure of five vehicles engaged in illegal mineral extraction. Additionally, surprise raids led to the confiscation of two JCB machines found illegally extracting minerals at Wahibugh Romshi and Panjran, as well as in Bygund Tral, Astanpora, and Litter areas.
Earlier actions by the Geology and Mining department had resulted in the seizure of a mechanical boat in the Awantipora area, which was found involved in illegal mineral extraction activities in the Katpora Charsoo area.
The seized vehicles and equipment will only be released upon payment of penalties, emphasized DMO Pulwama, stating that all illegal mining cases would be handled promptly under the relevant regulations.
The ongoing crackdown against illegal mining and transportation operations in Pulwama district highlights the department’s commitment to enforcing regulations and preserving environmental resources. The department reiterated its call for drivers to procure minerals from legal sources and refrain from engaging in illegal mining practices.
