Income Tax Deptt urges timely advance tax payments; highlights grievance redressal

SRINAGAR: The Income Tax Department organized an interactive session on Advance Tax and Grievance Redressal, urging taxpayers to pay their taxes before the impending deadline of March 15, 2024.
The session, held at “The Chinars” Aaykar Bhawan in Srinagar, saw the participation of around 50 taxpayers and tax professionals, including prominent figures from various sectors such as R.A. Punjabi (Former President KCCI), Farooq Ahmad (Burza group), Dildar Ahmad (President PHARO group), Abdul Gafoor (Kashmir Art Centre), Bilal Ahmad Dar (Owner of Pick & Choose), and Manzoor Seerat Ali Shah (Owner of Ali Shah carpets), alongside Charted Accountants and Advocates.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Shakil Ahmad Ganie, Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax-Srinagar, who emphasized the importance of Advance Tax payment for both taxpayers and the government. He highlighted that paying taxes in installments helps in managing cash flow and ensures compliance with tax laws, benefiting both parties.
Rahul Padha, Joint Commissioner of Income Tax, Srinagar, discussed the economic resurgence witnessed in the region post the abrogation of Article 370. However, he expressed concern over the decline in Advance Tax payments despite the economic growth, urging taxpayers to fulfill their tax obligations timely.
M.P. Singh, Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, J&K and Ladakh, underscored the department’s vigilance towards non-compliant taxpayers and the need for timely responses to departmental communications. He urged taxpayers to update their contact details on the Income Tax e-filing portal and promptly address any notices received from the department.
A senior officer elaborated on options available to taxpayers in case of bank account attachment by the department, emphasizing the importance of filing appeals or revision petitions within the stipulated timelines.
Following the discussion on Advance Tax, the session addressed various grievances raised by taxpayers concerning outstanding demands, refunds, appeals, and rectifications. The department assured taxpayers of its commitment to assist and guide them in tax matters, urging them to contribute to the nation’s progress by paying taxes honestly and on time.
The interactive session concluded on a positive note, fostering better understanding and cooperation between taxpayers and the Income Tax Department in advancing the country’s economic goals.
