Jal Jeevan Mission: 90% rural households in Pampore now access clean tap water

13 schemes completed, 6 pending, 100% coverage by 2024: AEE

Pampore: In a significant achievement, the Jal Jeevan Mission has reached a milestone by extending tap water supply to 90% of rural households in the Sub Division under the Jal Shakti department in Pampore area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district. This accomplishment marks a substantial step towards ensuring access to clean and reliable water sources for the majority of rural homes, contributing to improved sanitation and overall well-being in the region, officials told Kashmir Reader.
The successful implementation of the mission reflects the commitment to addressing water accessibility challenges and promoting sustainable development in Pampore.
Speaking to Kashmir Reader, Assistant Executive Engineer Jal Shakti department Gulzar Ahmad from the Jal Shakti department has informed about the work they are undertaking under the Jal Jeevan Mission, these initiatives are centrally sponsored schemes.
Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, a total of 19 schemes were allocated for Sub Division Pampore. Out of these, 13 schemes have been completed, with an approximate total cost of 13 crore rupees, he said, adding that the remaining 6 schemes, which are currently incomplete, are scheduled to be finished by the end of January next month.
“We have also certified approximately 90 percent of households in rural areas, providing them with water through Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTC) coverage. We are now planning to complete the remaining 6 schemes by the end of next month in response to the demand,” he added.
In the Pampore area, the rural region is on track to be entirely completed, ensuring a comprehensive water supply network. Once this is accomplished, there should be no need for anyone to face water shortages, as we are providing water to every household in the area, Gulzar said.
The AEE said they have initiated separate schemes for Saffron Town Pampore and Khrew Town, with a total cost of 13 crore rupees. “A 5.5 crore rupees new project for Pampore is currently undergoing survey by PDMC, and the project work is in progress. It is slated to be completed next year under Amrut 2.0, which is currently underway,” he said. “We are committed to completing the project, addressing issues such as water scarcity on structures like bridges and areas with insufficient water. In Khrew, where some new colonies face water challenges, a project worth 7.5 crore rupees has been devised to provide water to these regions.”
Regarding the Jal Jeevan Mission, the AEE said, “We currently have 6 pending schemes, and efforts are underway to complete them by the end of the next month, extending up to 2024. This will result in achieving 100 percent Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) coverage, ensuring that every household has access to water through taps.”
“We have 6 pending schemes in Gundbal, Androosa, Lalpora Chatlam, Water Supply Scheme Wuyan, Bangla Wuyan, Bhathina Batdalaw, and Bajnadi. The estimated cost for these schemes is 26 crore rupees, and they are scheduled to be completed next month. The civil work for these schemes is already finished, and the total budget allocated for these projects in Sub Division Pampore is 40 crore rupees,” he added.
