Srinagar: The Vice Chancellor’s sports festival was kick started at the playfields of College of Temperate Sericulture, Mirgund by Director Education SKUAST-K, Prof.M A A Siddique on October 20, 2023, along with Prof Prof. M F Baqual, Associate Dean CoTS Mirgund.
The sports festival is organized by Department of Students Welfare and College of Temperate Sericulture Mirgund. Heads of Divisions, Scientists of the College along with good number of spectators and participants attended the inaugural function. At the outset, Dr. Nisar Ahmad Ganie, Student Welfare Officer and Organizing Secretary briefed about the activities to be conducted during the weeklong sports festival and introduced the participating teams to the Chief Guest.
Director Education highlighted the significance of sports and games and emphasized upon the students to de-stress themselves by actively participating in sports. Prof. M F Baqual, Associate Dean of the College said that sports activities play a pivotal role in the overall development of the student. He said that in NEP 2020 much stress is laid on involving the students in extracurricular activities which will inculcate discipline, brotherhood and time management among the students.
Later on, an inaugural cricket match was played between UG and PG students which ended in a nail-biting finish and seniors emerged as victorious.
