Mirwaiz barred from consecutive 199 Friday prayers: Anjuman

SRINAGAR: Anjuman Auqaf Jama Mas-jid Srinagar has condemned the authori-ties’ behaviour of keeping its president Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Muham-mad Umar Farooq under “illegal and arbi-trary” house detention for nearly the past four years. In a statement, the Anjuman said that to-day is the 199th consecutive Friday when Kashmir’s top religious leader Mirwaiz-e- Kashmir was not allowed to perform the important religious duty of Friday prayer or fulfill his official duties due to the con-tinued detention. And due to the continued house arrest of Mirwaiz, the centuries-old pulpit and mirab of the Jama Masjid, the great place of wor-ship in Kashmir, have also remained silent which otherwise would reverberate with Qaal Allah Wa Qaala Rasool (SAW), it said. Before the arrival of the holy days of Hajj and sacrifice, a large number of people, including men, women and youth, faced disappointment today when they were deprived of listening to their beloved lead-er’s sermons at the historic grand mosque. The Anjuman said that the restriction on the personal and religious freedom of Mir-waiz is the worst violation of human and religious rights, which is not only highly alarming but also against democratic val-ues. Those who believe in human, demo-cratic and religious values should raise their voices against it, the Auqaf said.
