Srinagar: A two-day training programme on “Peace Education” organized by the Directorate of School Education Kashmir in collaboration with the Save the Children at District Institute of Educational Trainings (DIET) Srinagar concluded on Wednesday.
The event which was inaugurated by the Principal DIET Srinagar, Dr. Tahira Hilali, witnessed several sessions covering issues like Schools as Safe Zones for Peace, Pedagogy for Peace, Violence and Conflict in Schools and the Role of Media in escalating or resolving the conflicts in schools.
The resource persons which include, Dr. Urfana Amin, Dr. Nasreen Bano, Mr. Muzamil Ahmad, Dr. Arshid Rashid, Mr. Nazir Gillo, Mtr. Roohi Sultana and Mr. Mushtaq Sikander, delivered detailed presentations on the Peace Education Manual and provided the participants with hands-on experience on how to manage and resolve conflicts in their respective schools.
“Almost every student nowadays faces stress, anxiety or witnesses a conflict in one way or the other in schools. It becomes the responsibility of the teachers to ease out the stress and resolve conflicts, if any, among the students so that the peaceful transaction of teaching-learning occurs in the class,” Dr. Urfana Amin, one of the resource persons said.
Citing the need for pedagogy for peace, Dr. Nasreena Bano, another resource person, highlighted the issues and areas where teachers need to work and engage students in order to create an enabling environment and make schools as the safe zones of peace.
Mr. Nazir Gillo, who delivered the sessions on the conflict in schools and the role of media in conflict and peace-building, shared and stressed on the mechanism for prevention, management and resolution of the conflicts in the classrooms and in the schools.
Other resource persons who delivered the sessions on important issues include Dr. Arshid Rashid, Mr. Muzamil Ahmad, Mr. Mushtaq-ul-Haq Sikandar and Mtr. Roohi Sultana who shared their vast expertise and ideas with the participants and urged them to make sure that the elements covered during the programme are implemented in their schools.
