Woman entrepreneur from Budgam receives prestigious IARI innovative farmer award

Srinagar: Rubina Tabassum, who hails from the small village of Yarikalan, Chadoora in District Budgam is a successful entrepreneur who had started her venture in floriculture.
At present she possesses 26 (ha) of land on lease, scores of green houses and aromatic flowers like lavender, rose and a small retail shop at the Kashmir airport.
Her products are known by the brand United Floritech. Her farm is well equipped with all latest technologies including Poly-House, Micro-irrigation, Mulching, Trellis-System and steam distillation unit. She has introduced the latest and innovative agriculture technologies in her village for their adoption by other farmers.
Her annual turnover of the company is 50-75 lakhs. She provides the facility of online trade via e-commerce, India Mart, Amazon for marketing of her produce to the customers. Moreover, she was awarded with prestigious IARI innovative farmer award at Pusa KrishiVigyanMela, organised by IARI, New Delhi, recently. She was recommended and nominated by KrishiVigyan Kendra Budgam SKUAST-Kashmir for this National award.
Rubina Tabassum is the Managing Director and founder of United Floritech Company which is dealing with cultivation of rose, gerbera, lilium, and gladiolus under protected conditions with extraction facilities. She also cultivates exotic vegetables under Green Houses using Hitech technologies.
She was recently felicitated by Advisor to Lt. Governor J&K, Farooq Ahmad Khan and Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganie during 7th Technology Exhibition Cum Seed sale Mela, 2022 held at SKUAST-K. Besides many other awards, she is also recipient of Champion Farmer Award from Lt. Governor of J&K. She is also a member of the Extension Council of SKUAST-K as a progressive farm woman. Rubeena is a role model and inspiration for the farm women of UT of J&K. She has continuously received technological inputs and guidance from the scientists of KVK Budgam SKUAST-K. Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganaie conveyed his congratulations on receiving this prestigious award and hoped that many other farm women and rural youth will take the lead like her to become self-reliant and successful. KVK Budgam promoted and recommended four leading progressive farmers of the District who received IARI innovative awards in the past four years. Vice Chancellor has also congratulated KVK Budgam for this recognition.
