NIT Director unfurls tricolour, takes salute

Srinagar: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar on Sunday celebrated 75th Independence Day with enthusiasm and exuberance at the campus. Prof. (Dr.) Rakesh Sehgal unfurled the tricolor at campus and it was followed by a grand parade.
On the occasion, Director NIT, Prof Sehgal extended his warm wishes on the 75th Independence Day and stated the day reminds country’s citizens of all the sacrifices our freedom fighters made to secure India’s future. He said identity of being an independent country where sovereign power of deciding our destiny rests with us, brings about a huge responsibility on our shoulders. We have a double responsibility compared to common man, to dedicate our services and life for the progress of the nation, Prof Sehgal said.
Director NIT Srinagar said the uniqueness of India’s great story is that this nation is achieving respect of the world taking a democratic path. This is always more difficult, more painful way of achieving growth but definitely it is more sustainable way where we do not silence the voices of concern while planning our growth agenda, he said.
“The founding fathers of this nation including Mahatma Gandhi Ji, along with the numerous freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the country, wanted this nation to be independent and happy. Over the past 75 years, India has emerged towards becoming a global power to fulfill it,” he said.
The function was organized by Associate Professor and HOD, Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Dr. Yashwant Mehta. Following bad weather, it was held at two venues on the campus. It consisted of a flag hoisting ceremony and parade. On the occasion, patriotic songs were presented by the children of the faculty members, while Dr. Mehta also performed a patriotic song. In the event around 150 faculty members, staff, children, and security personnel attended the program.
Later Prof. Sehgal thanked everyone for attending and participating in the ceremony. He extended his special gratitude towards the security personnel for their participation and efforts.
