Charsoo villagers crave for blacktopping, widening of road

Awantipora: Charsoo villagers in Awantipora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district have been demanding blacktopping of an important link road for past two years.
The villagers told Kashmir Reader that it is an approaching road to Srinagar-Jammu Highway and is being used by villagers from Charsoo, Takuna, Reshipora, Gulzarpora and other adjoining villages.
The residents said that the road was macadamised years ago and has developed many potholes.
” The blacktopping eroded, the potholes filled with water during rain and snow make it difficult for commuters to tread on it,” they said.
Izhar Ahmad, a local resident of Charsoo village told Kashmir Reader that he raised this issue with authorities of Roads and Buildings department multiple times but to no avail.
“They only paid lip service and our pleas fell on deaf ears,” Izhar said, adding that the non response from the R & B department prompted him to lodge a series of complaints with the Jammu and Kashmir government grievance cell.
“They forwarded it R&B with the directions to look into the matter,” he said, adding that R&B officials replied that they have taken up the road under NABARD but till date no work has been initiated.
The residents pleaded with higher authorities to look into the matter and direct concerned officers for blacktopping and widening of the road.
