SRINAGAR: In a decisive move against militancy-related activities, police across several districts in Jammu and Kashmir have taken action to cancel bail granted to individuals accused under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act – UAPA, who were found violating the conditions of their release.

Police in Sopore have identified 11 individuals, previously granted bail by the court, who are now found to be in breach of court-imposed conditions. Following thorough monitoring and verification of their conduct post-release, authorities are preparing to file formal applications seeking the cancellation of their bail, a police spokesperson said in a statement.

“This step underscores police’s firm stance on preventing the misuse of judicial reliefs by anti-national elements and ensuring accountability among accused persons,” he said.

Similarly, in Anantnag, police have initiated proceedings to revoke the bail of nine accused persons involved in UAPA cases. The move comes after investigations revealed that these individuals had violated bail conditions and engaged in activities that threaten public safety and security, police said, adding that the district police’s continuous case reviews and surveillance efforts have brought these violations to light, prompting the legal action.

In Shopian, police have filed 13 applications for bail cancellation concerning accused persons under UAPA. The individuals had been granted bail by courts but were found re-engaging in anti-national activities, violating the conditions of their release. Police said their actions are part of a broader strategy to dismantle militancy support networks and prevent the revival of terror ecosystems.

Police authorities reiterated that bail is a legal concession, not an exemption from accountability. Any breach of court conditions will attract strict legal consequences, including re-arrest and further investigation. They reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the rule of law, maintaining peace, and safeguarding national security by taking firm action against those attempting to undermine stability through illegal activities.
