Observes hunger strike
Srinagar: Jailed Baramulla Member of Parliament Er Rashid on Tuesday began a symbolic barefoot march from Tihar Jail to Parliament while observing a day long hunger strike, pressing for a meaningful, time bound and result oriented dialogue on Jammu and Kashmir.
AIP chief spokesperson Inam Un Nabi said the protest is aimed at urging the Government of India to initiate dialogue with elected representatives and other legitimate stakeholders of Jammu and Kashmir to address the region’s political issues.
The party said Er Rashid is also demanding the restoration of Article 370 and Article 35A, along with the restoration of all democratic and constitutional rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The AIP said the symbolic protest follows Er Rashid’s earlier announcement extending support to the demand for restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, while maintaining that the aspirations of the people go beyond statehood alone and include restoration of their constitutional and political rights.
The party reiterated that the barefoot march and hunger strike reflect Er Rashid’s commitment to what it described as a peaceful and democratic struggle for the rights and dignity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. (KNO)
