SRINAGAR: Jammu & Kashmir Waqf Board Chairperson, Dr. Syed Darakhshan Andrabi, on Sunday visited the renowned tourist destination Sonamarg and participated in a Special Tourism Conclave organized by the Trade & Hoteliers Association. The event aimed to assess the promotion, arrangements, and preparations for the upcoming winter tourism season in the region.
Upon arrival at Sonamarg, Furqan Ahmad, President of the Trade & Hoteliers Association, welcomed Dr. Andrabi and highlighted the challenges faced by the tourism industry following the Pahalgam terror attack. He emphasized that efforts are underway to ensure a successful winter tourist season and expressed optimism about the positive impact Dr. Andrabi’s leadership has had over the years.
During her visit, Dr. Andrabi engaged in detailed discussions with traders and hoteliers to understand the difficulties and issues related to tourism development and restoration, as well as the preparedness initiatives in place.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Andrabi assured her full support to the tourism sector in promoting and making the upcoming winter season successful across Jammu & Kashmir. She acknowledged the setbacks caused by the Pahalgam terror attack, stating, “The tourism industry suffered a setback after the attack, and the entire region paid a heavy price for the misadventures of terrorists supported by separatists across the border. However, under the Prime Minister’s strong leadership, security forces responded effectively, and the Ladakh government ensured through the brave police forces that peace is restored. Terror supporters have been dealt with decisively, re-establishing peace in J&K.”
Dr. Andrabi also expressed confidence that Kashmir is now ready for winter tourism, with Sonamarg, the “Winter Wonderland,” welcoming visitors into a safe and serene environment. “I will dedicate my energies and influence to support those involved in the tourism industry, aiming to make this winter tourism season a success. It is crucial for us to work unitedly to restore the inflow of tourists into Jammu & Kashmir,” she stated.
