When The World Feels Too Loud: Embracing Silence To Nurture The Soul

Must read

In a world overwhelmed by noise and expectations, rediscover the serenity within by reconnecting with nature, self-awareness, and the quiet voice of your inner being

 By Azra Shakeel

At some point, our soul feels crippled, our nerves get paralysed, and our body stops responding. This is a reflection of the existential crisis that every human being encounters at least once in a lifetime. Noise invades every corner of our calm, leaving us yearning to simply be ourselves — to be silent. We feel the need to detach, to remain unbothered and disconnected from everything outside. When the noise overwhelms, chaos suffocates the soul. With every breath, thorns scrape against the remnants of peace, and life itself begins to feel unbearably heavy. Being alive turns into the deepest regret, as the body grows weighty upon the soul. When the energy within begins to drain, existence becomes the heaviest burden to carry. It is the time when our body fights against us — when anxiety grips every organ, and the soul feels hollow, empty, and shattered.

Expectations from society, pressures from family, and the constant struggle to achieve perfection weigh heavily on us. When even the smallest moments of peace are stolen, they begin to feel unattainable. Life throws storm after storm, and eventually, we are left in silence — quiet, exhausted, and searching for stillness within ourselves.

How much can the human mind endure? We live under the weight of constant struggle — striving to fit into society, fearing judgment, fearing failure. The cost is heavy, and in the process, we begin to overlook the small moments of joy and the blessings with which we have been gifted.

Each time darkness creeps into our minds and sadness engulfs us, we feel the weight even more. In this age of digitalisation and relentless competition, our voices often go unheard. Emotions are suppressed by intellect, and values seem to be fading, leaving us adrift in a world that demands performance over presence.

There is not a single person on this earth who has not, at some point, caused you pain or shown malice. That malice takes many forms — jealousy, hatred, or the constant urge to bring you down. Why should we blame ourselves for pleasing those who are, in essence, enemies of our souls? Why should we cry over things that were never meant for us?

The moment we get out of bed, even before our eyes fully open, the calls, messages, and notifications start yelling in our minds. We begin thinking about how the day will start, how to meet the endless expectations, instead of pausing to ask ourselves what we truly want.

We rush to fulfil the demands of others, ignoring the quiet needs of our own souls. We carry chaos, storms, and anxieties within us, rarely taking a moment to truly be with ourselves. Society’s pressures, family expectations, and the relentless demands of life pull us away from our inner needs.

Eventually, we find ourselves alone. In that silence, we begin to notice the small, delicate details — the sound of an insect crawling along the window or the wall, the rhythm of our own breaths. These tiny reminders make us aware of how often the voice of our own soul has been unheard.

It is in these moments — when we turn everything off and truly listen — that we reconnect with ourselves, the quiet voice within, and the peace we have long overlooked.

Amid the constant complexities of life, the only true refuge we can find is in nature. By immersing ourselves in the creations of God, imagining worlds beyond our own, we begin to see how vast life is and how small our worries truly are. We observe how the world brings miseries, yet a single tree remains calm, steadfast, and serene.

There is profound beauty in spending time with ourselves — simply listening to our own needs, tuning in to the quiet voice of our breath. When we stand still, fully present with ourselves, undistracted by anything else, we rediscover peace. We meditate, breathe deeply, and reconnect with the stillness that has always been within us.

The question we need to ask ourselves is: why? Why worry so much when, in the end, we leave everything behind? Why not take a step back from the things that crush us, that leave us broken and depressed? Why not fulfil the true purpose of our being — to nurture our soul and love it deeply?

Be at peace. No matter how perfect you try to be, no matter how far you go or how much you achieve, the world will still find a way to remind you of your flaws. One mistake, and they will make you feel small again.

So if anything begins to trouble your peace, take a step back. Breathe. Protect your soul — it is the only thing that truly belongs to you. Learn to ignore the things that disturb your peace. Learn to distance yourself from people who drain your mental energy. Guide yourself through meditation, spirituality, and a love for nature.

Be yourself. Take care of yourself; the world will accommodate. You don’t need to prove your worth to anyone — you don’t owe explanations to everyone, and you don’t have to doubt your existence, for you are the finest of creations, “The Ashraful Makhluqaat”.
