76th Republic Day celebrated with patriotic fervour across Kashmir

SRINAGAR: The 76th Republic Day was celebrated with enthusiasm and patriotic spirit throughout Kashmir, marked by flag unfurling ceremonies, parades, and cultural events at various district levels. These celebrations commemorate the adoption of India’s constitution on January 26, 1950, which transitioned the country into a republic.
This year’s festivities revolved around the theme ‘Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas’ (Golden India: Heritage and Progress), shining a light on India’s cultural richness and developmental strides.
In Budgam, the main event took place at the Sports Stadium, where Chairman of the District Development Council (DDC) Nazir Ahmad Khan unfurled the National Flag and reviewed the parade. He praised the Constitution and paid tribute to the sacrifices of freedom fighters, highlighting the district’s ongoing developmental progress, and the significant role of the District Administration in implementing initiatives.
The parade featured contingents from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF, and local school children, followed by colorful cultural performances, including traditional dances and patriotic songs. The event concluded with awards presented to officials for outstanding service.
Similarly, in Ganderbal, the main celebration took place at Qamaria Ground. DDC Chairperson Nuzhat Ishfaq unfurled the National Flag and praised the developmental achievements of the district while emphasizing the significance of the newly inaugurated Sonamarg tunnel, which promises to enhance tourism and local economy.
The celebration included cultural programs performed by students, showcasing the region’s heritage through music and dance. Awards were distributed to participants for their efforts in the march and cultural displays.
In Pulwama, the event was held at the District Police Lines, where DDC Chairperson Syed Abdul Bari Andrabi unfurled the National Flag, taking salute from various contingents. The gathering of residents reflected community spirit and patriotism, featuring performances that celebrated local culture, with a special recognition of the families of martyrs from security forces.
Kulgam also commemorated the day with a flag unfurling at District Police Lines, led by DDC Chairperson Mohammad Afzal Parrey. He elaborated on the district’s achievements in education and healthcare while cultural items by local artists and students enthralled the audience.
Shopian celebrated with a vibrant gathering at DPL Shopian. DDC Chairperson Bilqees Jan emphasized unity and development in her address, complimenting the various cultural performances showcasing local talent and heritage. The event culminated in the recognition of outstanding individuals and organizations contributing to the community.
In Bandipora, the main function was held at S.K. Stadium, where DDC Chairman Abdul Gani Bhat led the flag hoisting and parade inspecion. He highlighted the district’s developmental efforts as students entertained with performances celebrating regional cultural traditions.
Kupwara’s celebration included an impressive display at District Police Lines, where DDC Chairman Irfan Sultan Panditpori emphasized community harmony and national integration. The event showcased cultural performances and awards were given for excellence in various categories.
Throughout these celebrations, similar functions took place at sub-divisional, block, and panchayat levels, engaging communities in a shared spirit of patriotism and remembrance of the sacrifices that led to India’s republic status. The events included not just pomp and pageantry but also reflections on development, unity, and the importance of furthering Kashmir’s future.
