Mirwaiz calls for unity, brotherhood in Ramadan address at Jamia Masjid

SRINAGAR: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq led Majlis e Waz o Tableegh at the historic Jamia Masjid Srinagar, marking a notable moment in the holy month of Ramadan.
Addressing the faithful, Mirwaiz appealed to all sects and organizations – religious, social, or political – to transcend personal and sectarian interests and foster unity and brotherhood among the people of Jammu and Kashmir to safeguard its collective identity. He emphasized that adhering to basic human, moral, and religious principles and values is the best way to ensure collectivism, warning against internal conflicts and one-upmanship that could lead to destruction.
Directing his message to the youth, Mirwaiz highlighted their pivotal role as the future of the region. He urged them to pursue education and awareness, tapping into their inner capabilities and consciousness to contribute to the establishment of a just and prosperous community.
Mirwaiz appealed to the authorities to heed the collective conscience of the people and unconditionally release thousands of Kashmiri political prisoners held in jails across Jammu and Kashmir and India. He emphasized that many prisoners endure appalling conditions for years, causing immense distress to their families and communities.
Addressing pressing issues faced by the populace, Mirwaiz underscored the urgent need for addressing the lack of electricity, particularly acute during the holy month of Ramadan, especially for the underprivileged lacking alternative means. He urged authorities to promptly resolve this issue, given their capacity to do so. Mirwaiz also lamented the deplorable condition of roads, exacerbating commuting challenges.
Highlighting the significance of the holy month, Mirwaiz urged people to seize the opportunity for introspection and self-assessment. He emphasized the importance of realigning faith with the teachings of Quran and Sunnah, striving to earn the pleasure of Allah in this world and the Hereafter.
