Police serve proclamation notice against Pampore man facing charges under UAPA

Pampore: Police on Saturday served a proclamation notice at the residence of a man in the Frestabal area of the Saffron Town Pampore and displayed it prominently at various locations.
The proclamation notice was publically read and pasted at conspicuous places in the locality by a team from Pampore Police Station. A copy of the notice was also pasted at a visible sight on the house of the accused.
The court of special Judge designated under National Investigation Agency (NIA) Act Pulwama issued a proclamation order against Owais Feroz Mir, son of Feroz Ahmad Mir, a resident of Frestabal Pampore of Pulwama district to surrender before the court or the investigating officer by October 10, 2023.
The proclamation was issued on August 31, following which a police team headed by SDPO Pampore Krishan Rattan along with SHO Pampore Jazib Mohammad Bhat visited the residence of the accused on Saturday and pasted the proclamation notice there in the presence of the Executive Magistrate 1st Class Pampore, civil witness and family members of the accused.
Owais Feroz is accused in a criminal case, FIR No. 42/2018, registered under Sections 18, 20, and 38 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act or UA(P) Act, police said.
According to the proclamation order, Owais is facing charges under the UA(P) Act in a case that dates back to 2018.
Despite repeated attempts, he has failed to appear before the investigating officer, leaving the authorities with no choice but to issue a non-bailable warrant against him earlier this month.
The court believes that Owais Feroz is absconding and evading arrest.
The court believes that the accused has taken measures to avoid the execution of the warrant. The proclamation, issued by the Court of Special Judge Pulwama has directed Owais to either appear before the court or the investigating officer, SDPO Pampore, by or before October 10, 2023, failure to comply with this directive could lead to further legal action against the accused.
As per reports, Owais Feroz, son of Feroz Ahmad Mir, has been living in Pakistan for the last few years.
