New Delhi: Parents generally give their kids their mobile phones so that they can play games and stay engaged. A woman in the US also did the same when her five-year-old daughter asked for her mobile phone while they were driving as she liked to play games on the device.
However, what her daughter did with her phone left her with a credit card bill of $3,922 (Rs 3.21 lakh approx.). Jessica Nunes of Westport, Massachusetts, got to know her daughter had placed orders on Amazon worth $3,922 when she received text messages on her phone at 2 am. Initially, she thought her account may have been hacked but when she checked Amazon, she realised her daughter Lila Varisco had placed orders for toys and boots.
She had purchased 10 children’s dirt bikes and a children’s two-seat ride-on Jeep and 10 pairs of white cowgirl boots in women’s size 7, according to TODAY.com.
“Ironically, that’s my shoe size,” Nunes is quoted as saying. Lila placed the order for the bikes from two different sellers, one of whom immediately sent Nunes an email to confirm it was a valid order.
While Nunes cancelled that batch, the second seller had already shipped the remaining five bikes, which arrived that day. Nunes was able to cancel the boots order. However, the Jeep arrived on March 31. Fortunately, all the companies have agreed to process returns.
Nunes, who is a business owner, uses Amazon frequently and doesn’t always double-check her order history. However, now she will.
