KVK Ganderbal holds training, awareness programme under Jal Shakti Abhiyan at Gutlibagh

Srinagar: KVK Ganderbal organized a Training cum Awareness programme on methods of water conservation, water harvesting and ways to improve water use efficiency under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan initiative at Gutlibagh on Friday.
The programme was attended by Scientific and Supporting staff of KVK, and farmers and farm-women of the area. Dr. Ishfaq Abidi, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Ganderbaldescribed the aims of the Jal Shakti Abhiyan and signified the importance of water conservation. It was stressed on the participants to adopt the scientific methods of water conservation. He further emphasized on the importance of water at critical stages of various crops which needs to be tapped in order to explore the full genetic potential of improved crop varieties.
Dr Eajaz Ahmad Dar, Scientist Agronomy and Dr. Farooq Ahmad Ahanger, Scientist Plant Protection gave a detailed demonstration of the different methods of water conservation and inter and intra-row water harvesting. The importance of micro-irrigation in water saving and the methods that can be adopted to improve the water use efficiency in agricultural crops with the Slogan of More Crop, Per Drop. A stress was made to boost the crop productivity through optimum allocation of irrigation water to the crops at the critical stages and avoid unnecessary use of irrigation water. An Interaction Session with farmers and scientists of KVK was also organized wherein farmers discussed various traditional methods and ITKs in water conservation and showed interest in adopting the scientific methods of water conservation.The event ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Farooq Ahmad Ahanger.
