KVK Ganderbal organizes Grape Day at Repora Ganderbal.

Ganderbal: KVK Ganderbal organized Grape Day at Repora Ganderbal on Saturday. The field day was conducted in the grape field of Mr. Abdul Rahim Bhat, progressive grape farmer. The programme was graced by Sheikh Ishfaq Jabbar, ex MLA Ganderbal and Prof. Dr.Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi, Director Extension SKUAST-K. Welcoming the dignitaries, Dr. Ishfaq Abidi, Senior Scientist & Head KVK Ganderbal emphasized the importance of grapes for Ganderbal district and guided the farmers about the proper management practices for export oriented grape production. It was stressed that the management practices devised by KVK Ganderbal should be adopted by all the farmers across the block, as the results are based on successful management of various diseases and physiological disorders through ofts laid by KVK Ganderbal in the village.
Sheikh Ishfaq Jabbar, Chief Guest of the occasion appreciated the efforts of scientists of KVK in dissemination of knowledge to the farmers.
He emphasized on the KVK scientists to be in the fore-front of change for revival of grapes and other horticulture crops, which can improve the socioeconomic conditions of the farmers. The Guest of Honour, Prof. (Dr.) Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi, Director Extension SKUAST-K encouraged the farmers to make FPOs for branding and tagging of Repora Grapes. He emphasized the importance of making FPOs for availing various benefits by the farming community. He inspired the farmers to work on the footprints of farmers of Maharashtra, who have increased their benefits manifolds by making FPOs.
During farmer’s feedback, it was decided that University shall formulate a plan for developing low cost bower system for training of grapes and a complete value chain in collaboration with respective departments.
The farmers applauded the efforts of scientists of KVK Ganderbal, whose efforts helped them in reducing pre- and post-harvest losses.
They also expressed interest in taking up the horti-poultry model in grape fields. Ishfaq Jabbar and Dr. Makhdoomi praised the efforts of KVK Ganderbal and hoped the same efforts will be replicated in other areas of the District. The programme was attended by scientists of Directorate of Extension, staff of KVK, Chief Horticulture Officer, Abdul Hamid, Agriculture Marketing Officer Syed Sarwat and other officers of line department.
