DLSA B’gam organizes legal awareness, capacity building programme on juvenile justice

BUDGAM: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Budgam today organized a legal awareness cum capacity building programme on Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2015, under the guidance of Chairman District Legal Services Authority PD&SJ Budgam at Juvenile Justice Board, here.
The programme was presided over by Chief Judicial Magistrate (Principal Magistrate JJB) Budgam and was attended by Members of Juvenile Justice Board, Members of Child Welfare Committee, Juvenile Police Welfare Officers, Officials and PLV’s of DLSA Budgam, Juveniles along with their parents/guardians.
Different speakers chosen by DLSA Budgam thoroughly discussed the Juvenile Justice Care and Protection Act 2015.
Speaking on the occasion, Shabir Ahmad Malik, Chief Judicial Magistrate (Principal Magistrate JJB) Budgam while addressing the participants defined the role of Child Welfare Committees, District child protection units and Juvenile Justice Boards and other stakeholders.
Through his Power Point presentation, he gave a detailed description about the provisions of Juvenile Justice Act 2015 and also discussed the terms and conditions of the Juvenile Justice delivery system, especially for the Children who are in conflict with law.
Furthermore, in his presentation he also highlighted the role of DLSA in providing legal aid to the juveniles.
Feroz Ahmad Khan, member Juvenile Justice Board Budgam spoke on the role of special police units with Child in Conflict with law. He deliberated upon main objectives of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection Act 2015) which aims to focus and change the law related to Juveniles i.e. children who are in conflict with law and children in need of care and protection by fulfilling their basic necessities through proper care and nourishment of Child friendly atmosphere at Juvenile Justices Boards.
Eventually, concluding the function Secretary DLSA Budgam gave her detailed outlook about the programme. She also highlighted the role of institutions dealing with the children including police units.
Furthermore, she briefed the audience about the main objectives of the Juvenile Justice Act 2015 and she also focused upon the role of DLSA in achieving the target.
At the end of the programme a healthy question and answer session was held in which the queries/questions were raised by the participants and answered by Principal Magistrate Juvenile Justice Board and Secretary DLSA Budgam.
