Fear grips after leopard was spotted in Bla

BARAMULLA: Fear gripped among the residents of Baramalla on Friday evening when a leopard was spotted in civil lines area of Baramulla town.
Eyewitness said that a leopard was spotted at Nanak Bhawan area close to Saint Joseph’s higher secondary school Baramulla town on Friday evening.
“It is first time when a wild beast came at such a place close to Srinagar Baramulla highway where people was walking till late night. Wildlife department should take the matter serious and take immediate steps to catch the beast,” a local said.
A senior wildlife official said that leopards were coming to residential areas in search of food, therefore people should take not travel alone during morning and evening hours. He said in the past several months they spotted many leopards and bears in nearby areas like in Ushkora, Rangwar, friends colony and at other places but they never attacked any person because the people are vigilant and are following wildlife advice issued by the department in advance.
