Kupwara: A BJP leader was injured in a misfire incident by his own security personnel in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. The injured, Ishafaq Shafi, has been identified as the son of senior BJP leader Muhammad Shafi.
Mohammad Shafi is district president of BJP in Kupwara and his son Ishfaq is also associated with BJP in Kupwara district.
Police Sources told Kashmir Reader that Shafi received minor injuries in his arm after gun of his PSO accidentally misfired at him. He was shifted to nearby hospital, treated and discharged.
A family member, on the condition of anonymity told Kashmir Reader that the incident occurred when Ishfaq in presence of BJP workers were distributing food kits among the needy people. It was first understood as attack from militants, later police in a statement, clarified it.
