DC B’la for efforts to completely eliminate Plastic pollution: Kumar directs Officers

BARAMULLA:With an aim to review the implementation of directions issued by National Green Tribunal (NGT) with respect to environmental conservation, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Bhupinder Kumar today chaired a meeting of concerned officers at dak bungalow here.
On the occasion, several matters including establishment of Solid Waste Management facility across the district, compliance of solid waste management rules and regulations, disposal of bio-degradable wastes, construction of vermi compost pits, demolition of lavatories along the bank of river Jhelum, identification of plastic free zones and other important issues of vital environmental significance.
After a detailed deliberation, the DC issued a slew of directions pertaining to strict complaince of NGT guidelines. He stressed upon the concerned officers to scale up their efforts and work towards the elimination of plastic waste besides highlighting various ill consequences of environmental pollution.
Kumar directed to take all concerned stakeholders especially shopkeepers, tent house owners and other concerned entities on board so that appropriate plan for combating the environmental challenges, is formulated. He stressed upon the concerned officers to strengthen the mechanism of imposing fine/penalities on violators as per the respective NGT guidelines.
The DC also directed to disseminate awareness by displaying hoardings and other relevant posters wherein ill effects of plastic use should be displayed. He added that complete ban on open burning of municipal solid waste including plastic waste have been imposed and appealed the people to cooperate with the administration for eliminating the use of plastic throughout the district.
Meeting was attended by ADC Baramulla, SDMs, CMO, DFO JV Division, District Officer Pollution Control Board, Executive Officers of respective MCs among other concerned functionaries.
