Black bear captured in Handwara village

Handwara: A black bear was captured in the Zachildara area of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Friday morning.
Officials in the department of wildlife said that, people in Zachildara area of Handwara informed that a back bear created panic among the local population of several villages of Zachildara and killed score of domestic animals from past two weeks
After receiving complaints the department installed a cage in the area, they said on wee hours of Friday they captured the beast in the cage and shift to its Sopore head office for legal formalities, they said they will release the beast in any forest area soon.
The local people of the area hailed the timely action taken by the department and said that they are very vigilant.
They said not only he killed scores of livestock, he also damaged apple trees and standing crops in the area, they added that they also spotted a leopard and appealed to officials of the department to catch the beast as soon as possible.
Similarly, the people in Deluna area of Baramulla, Sheeri area of Narvaw also complaints that several wild animals including black bears and leopards are roaming in their area and they killed several domestic animals in the areas, they requests the officials of wildlife department to take immediate steps so that people can take a breath of relief.
Meanwhile, the officials in the wildlife department again appealed to local people living along the forests and orchards to not venture alone mostly in morning and evening hours, and use a torch, or any other lighting system during night hours and move in groups so that leopards or bears can not attack them. They appealed to people to follow the guidelines issued by the department and protect from attacks.
