Man injured in Handwara accident, succumbs

HANDWARA: An elderly man was injured in a road accident on Saturday evening in Handwara area of district Kupwara, and succumbed at SMHS hospital in Srinagar on Sunday morning.
Official sources said that an elderly man Mohammad Sultan Sheikh 70 resident of Chotipora Handwara was hit by a car bearing registration number JK05A-8430 near the village on Saturday evening.
The injured was first shifted to district hospital Handwara where he was shifted to SMHS Srinagar for advanced treatment, however on Sunday he succumbed to his injuries.
Meanwhile, Handwara police has registered a case under relevant sections of law and investigation has been started.

Talking to Kashmir Reader Farooq Ahmad a local said that we have been demanding its widening since long but nothing has been done so far to it.
“We fail to understand what stops the administration to rebuild the culvert and thus solve the problems once for all. It is not a big project which may take years ,hardly it will take a few days for construction,” hes said.
Another resident Sameer Ahmad told Kashmir Reader no one can believe that a 8 feet wide culvert at Bonikhan on Hajin Sopore road is sixty year old and still serves along this road. The culvert , according to Sameer, was built in 1960 with the aim to connect many villages with Hajin. The bridge was made for tonga and carts to pass and the scant vehicular traffic witnessed then . It is a busy route now with vehicular traffic increasing a lot and areas like Shahgund,Gun Jahagir,Tarzoo ,Spore but the culvert is the same.
The locals have appealed to the deputy commissioner Bandipora to look into the matter personally so that this culvert can be upgraded to accommodate the present vehicular traffic.
