‘Sheer injustice’: Horticulture students of SKUAST hold protest to demand recruitment

SRINAGAR: Hundreds of students of Sher-i-Kashmir University of Agricultural Science and Technology (SKUAST) on Monday staged a sit-in protest against the university administration for holding no recruitment of more than 700 horticulture students who have passed out of the varsity since the year 2007.
The protesting students gathered in the premises of the varsity to demand recruitment as per their qualifications.
One of the students told Kashmir Reader that since 2007, there has been no recruitment organised by the university. “It is sheer injustice with us,” he said. “There is no point of holding such degrees now.”
More than 300 students participated in the protest today.
The students alleged that the police were allowed into the premises of the varsity to intimidate the students even though their protest was peaceful and genuine. The students alleged that police were also given instructions to lathicharge students.
“We are not goons here, we are students, we are asking for our rights,” protesting students told Kashmir Reader.
Kashmir Reader tried to contact the university administration but there was no response from their side.
