Distributes agricultural inputs for soybean cultivation
KULGAM: The All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Soybean, Dryland Agriculture Research Station (DARS), Rangreth, SKUAST-Kashmir, organized a Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) Programme at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kulgam, attended by more than 40 tribal farmers along with subject matter specialists of the Kendra, during which essential agricultural inputs including tarpaulins, Agri tool kits, and farming-related literature were distributed to promote cultivation of Soybean for nutritional security, livelihood upliftment, and soil health sustainability.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Sabia Akhter (Assistant Professor, Agronomy) along with the AICRP Soybean team of DARS, emphasized the importance of Soybean cultivation in tribal belts and gave general awareness about scientific cultivation of soybean, encouraging farmers to adopt improved production technologies for enhancing productivity and income.
Head, KVK Kulgam (Dr. Shakoor Ahmad) also addressed the participants and highlighted the significance of soybean as an important crop for sustainable agriculture. He emphasized on diversifying cropping options for the tribal farming community to combat challenges of climate change and appreciated the efforts of DARS Rangreth under the Tribal Sub Plan in strengthening the livelihood of tribal farming communities through timely input support and technical guidance.
The programme concluded with an interactive session, where farmers shared their experiences and received expert advice from scientists on soybean production technologies. The farming community emphasized having more such programmes in their tribal belts.
