Pattan villagers face shortage of drinking water

BARAMULLA: The villagers of Gund Khawaja Qasim in Pattan area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district are up in arms against the Jal Shakti department (PHE) who failed to provide them portable drinking water from past month and forcing villagers to use the polluted water from nearby stream.
The people said that the government approved a water supply scheme in the area in 2012, however,due to unknown reasons the work on the said scheme is yet to start and the people are facing hardships.
Altaf Ahmad a local of the area said that there is no source of drinking water in the village, the PHE pipeline is the only source of water, however from past few years we are facing hardships in summer as well as in winter, we approached the concern department so many times, but they give us assurance, but have failed not resolved our issue.
The locals have now been forced to get water from a nearby polluted stream, tha has raised fears of disease outbreak.
