Ganderbal: A soldier allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service weapon in a security force camp in Kangan area of center Kashmir district Ganderbal, official said here today.
Officials said that an army soldier of 24 Rashtriya Rifles posted at Chatergul Kangan area of Kangan lost his life after taking an extreme step by committing suicide on Tuesday morning..
They said panic gripped the camp when firing shots were heard from inside the camp.
However, when other security force personnel rushed to the area, they saw a soldier identified as Ct Jagmeet Singh resident of Haryana Service ID number 15514259 of (D.coy) lying in a pool of blood.
He was immediately rushed to hospital where he was declared dead by the doctors.
Officials said it was not immediately clear why he took this extreme step, adding police have registered a case and initiated proceedings.
