SKIMS gets robotic surgical system

SRINAGAR: Director Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Science (SKIMS) Dr AG Ahanger on Saturday inaugurated robotic surgical system which will allow surgeries to be done with precision, miniaturization, small incisions, decreased blood loss, less pain and quicker healing time.
The director said that it is the need of the hour to have such a system in place at the earliest because it is the future of the surgery without which surgeons will be worthless and obsolete, an official handout said.
“SKIMS is a deemed university which offers specialised courses in surgery and allied branches will be at loss at the students will opt out in absence of this technology,” added Dr Ahanger.
According to experts, it will help in urological, gynaecological, colorectical, neurosurgical and cardio-thyrosic procedures with excellent results. “Kidney transplantation, open heart procedures are also done with excellent results,” they said.
Head of the department Urology and Kidney Transplant unit Dr Saleem Wani said that there was an acute need of procurement of this cutting edge technology, which was not in place at the SKIMS for more than a decade.
