Internet restored at KU

Srinagar: In a major relief to thousands of students and job aspirants, authorities at the University of Kashmir, have restored the varsity’s internet facility, which has remained blocked throughout the recent lockdown in
the valley after the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5.
The KU website, which has been out of order throughout the lockdown much to the disappointment of students and job aspirants, is live again.
A top official at KU told Kashmir Reader that the university’s main lease line at the data centre was restored by the authorities at around 2 pm on Friday.
The KU’s being a real time website, whatever happens with respect to examinations or any other academic or administrative affair is uploaded directly from the data centre at the main campus, the official informed.
“Now that the university web portal is live again, students can check their results, apply online for issuance of certificates, re-evaluation or even jobs for that matter,” he added.
The restoration of internet facility at KU comes after strong resentment among the students and aspirants over the internet blockade at varsities in the valley and how it was adversely affecting the stakeholders of these
institutions.
The KU’s out of order website throughout the lockdown had left hundreds of students high and dry as they could not check their results online even after days of declaration, with the varsity declaring results of thirteen
undergrad and post grad examinations during the same time period.
On the administrative front, Kashmir University had not been able to even see the official mails due to internet blockade.
They said that several students eligible for various government of India scholarships had been deprived from the benefits as they could not apply online for the same.
The defunct internet facility at KU had also affected research work at the varsity right from the online e-tendering process to submission of online utilisation certificates to the funding agencies.
Meanwhile, a top official at the Cluster University, Srinagar, where also the internet services have remained blocked, hoped the facility would be resumed soon by the government.
