Normal life resumes in Shopian after missing youth releases video

Normal life resumed in South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Monday after four days of spontaneous shutdown against what the locals termed as the ‘disappearance’ of a local youth from police custody.

The life returned to normal after the youth who escaped from the police custody on May 01 released a five minute long video in which he claimed to have joined the militant ranks.

The huge rush of shoppers buying essentials including the food stuff was witnessed in the district today.

All the shops and business establishments reopened today while vehicular movement also resumed in the district.

Pertinently, complete shutdown was observed for the four straight days in the district as a local youth identified as Zubair Ahmad alias Chota Geelani had escaped from the Police Station Keegam on May 01.

Ahmad, a resident of Bona Bazar was arrested in 2015 under Public Safety Act (PSA) for his alleged involvement in stone pelting.
