Kangan residents stage protest against PDD

The inhabitants of Pakhtoon Pati in Mamer area of Kangan in Ganderbal district held massive protest demonstration against the Power Development Department(PDD),  for failing to reinstall transformer in their area after it developed some technical snag some days before .

The protesters blocked Srinagar-Leh highway near Mammer due to which the vehicular movement on the busy highway got disrupted for several hours due to which the commuters faced immense inconvenience.

“The non-availability of electricity today forced us to took to roads,” one of the protesters said.

Raising anti PDD slogans, the protesters demanded that a high capacity transformer should be installed in their area so that it can bear the load of the village.

“The low capacity transformer installed in our area has to cater large households and it doesn’t bear the load and often develops technical snags putting us to darkness ,” protesters said .

They said that the transformer of their village went defunct four times in past three months leaving the village reeling under darkness, adding that they had many a time approached PDD and administration about the issue but they fail to redress the concern.

Later some officials from civil and police reached to the spot and pacified them while assuring the protesters that their grievance will be looked into after that the traffic was restored.
