Congress leaders blame troopers of ransacking civilian property

Expressing serious concerns over the losses caused to property during search operations conducted, on Thursday, in Shopian district, Congress leaders Abdul Qayoom Shah and Mushtaq Ahmad Khanday condemned the security forces for causing severe damages to property both movable and immovable, besides leaving dozens of people injured.

Describing the harassment of civilians as very unfortunate and unacceptable, Congress leaders said that the forces should have exercised restraint while undertaking search operations.

They said that severe damages have been caused to the property of innocent people in many villages, which is not only unfortunate, but highly condemnable.

“Such incidents will invite strong reactions from the civilians,” the leaders added.

Blaming forces for ransacking the houses of civilians, they said, “This would vitiate the atmosphere of peace. Instead of such incidents, efforts should be made to win the confidence of the people.”

They urged upon the forces to ensure the safety of civilians.
