Pulwama villages reel under darkness, authorities in slumber

Nearly 100 families are reeling under darkness at Rakh litter and Nowpora Tral villages of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district following damage to the electric transformers.

Residents of Rakh litter alleged that 15 days have already elapsed and there is no effort by the concerned officials to get the transformer repaired which has suffered damages.

Residents of Nowpora Tral alleged that the 100kv transformer gets damaged after every two or three days because of heavy load.

The locals said that their repeated pleas to the senior functionaries of the PDD to provide a new transformer at an earliest have fallen on deaf ears.

Locals also alleged that the PDD employees are asking for money in lieu of providing the new transformer.

“We have decided to register a approach the court of law against the PDD as we are paying full fee from the past four months without getting electricity,” a local said.

“We are facing immense hardships in absence of electricity. Our school going children are suffering badly. We are unable to charge our mobile phones while appliances like refrigerators and others are lying defunct,” Ishtiyaq Ahmad, a resident of Nowpora Tral said.

The residents have been demanding installation of fresh transformer in the area to prevent what they said recurring troubles.

When contacted, Xen PDD Awantipora division, Muzafar Ahmad said that the department is trying hard to restore electricity in both these villages and we are trying to do so by the middle of this week.
