Wazwam row: Hurriyats slam ‘insensitive NC

SRINAGAR: Parallel factions of Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Sunday slammed the ruling National Conference for “relishing the luxury of Wazwan” while people were “besieged for mourning the killing of a teenager in forces’ firing” in Naid Khai area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
In a statement, Hurriyat Conference (G) spokesman, while condemning the imposition of curbs, expressed “anger as well as sorrow over the report that ruling National Conference (NC) relished Wazwan to celebrate the killing of Naidkhai youth.”
“When the whole state was mourning the death of innocent youth in Naidkhai Bandipora and major areas of this state where placed under curfew-like restrictions by state administration, the preference of Omar Abdullah to his party meeting over the visit to Naidkhai and relishing of Wazwan on this occasion which was ferried in police vehicles, is although a pathetic incident, but it is the traditional policy of NC to celebrate the innocent killings in Kashmir as they have done it in past and they will not mind it in future also,” a statement issued by the spokesperson of Hurriyat Conference (G) said.
It said the “power and chair has always been the sole concern of NC which has nothing to do with the miseries of common people.”
The statement “strongly condemned the use of brutal force on the peaceful protest demonstrations against the innocent killing and house detention of dozens of Hurriyat leaders including Mohammad Ashraf Sehraie, Mohammad Ashraf Laya, Firdous Ahmad Shah and Ashiq Hussain Sofi and imposition of curfew like restrictions in major parts of the state on the 2nd consecutive day.”
The Hurriyat faction also rejected the probe into the killing as “merely an eye-wash.”
In a statement, the spokesman of Hurriyat (M) “strongly condemned the imposition of continuous undeclared curfew for the last two days in most parts of the valley and Srinagar city.
Terming the government action as “vindictive and dictatorial,” the spokesman said “on one hand, the people of Kashmir are facing the fury of the weather and the tyranny of the government imposed oppressive measurers, and on the other hand the ruling class is busy in relishing feasts at their party headquarters.”
“After turning the households of Kashmiris into mournful and sorrowful places, the rulers of the state are busy in enjoying the luxury of Wazwan which unambiguously reflects the non-seriousness of the rulers towards the miseries and difficulties faced by the people,” the statement said.
He also rejected the setting up of enquiry commission to probe the Naid Khai killing.
The spokesman also condemned the continuous house confinement of amalgam chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and other leaders including Moulana Abbas Ansari, Zaffar Akbar Bhat, Syed Saleem Geelani, and also the arrest and continued detention of Eng Hilal Ahmad War.
