When one embraces the ‘mad’ perspective, they become acutely aware of life’s realities that often go unobserved
In a world where conformity often reigns and societal norms dictate our choices; there are those who dare to dictate a different perspective. They are the ones labelled as “mad” by the masses, not because of any derangement but because they choose to be on the opposite side of derailed waves of thinking. This label is not a symbol of weakness, but rather a testament to their willingness to see beyond the masks people wear and delve into life’s realities. This is a reflection of how I, too, am considered mad for my beliefs, thoughts, and the way I perceive the world.
Every morning, as people leave the comfort of their homes, they put on masks to shield their true selves from the world. These masks may be crafted to conform to societal expectations, hiding insecurities, desires, and unconventional thoughts. But in this realm of conformity, I refuse to participate. Instead, I choose to strip away the smokescreen and see the world for what it truly is.
When one embraces the “mad” perspective, they become acutely aware of life’s realities that often go unobserved. They perceive the struggles, the inequalities, and the complexities that exist beneath the surface. It is through this awareness that they can challenge the norms, question the injustices, and strive for a more equitable society.
The “mad” perspective allows for a deep understanding of the multifaceted nature of individuals. We are not defined solely by our chosen paths or educational backgrounds. Just as I, a science enthusiast and educator, can appreciate and find joy in English literature, others too possess hidden passions and interests that defy conventional categorization. By acknowledging this, we break free from the limitations imposed by society and embrace diversity.
I embrace mad perspective for it allows me to think beyond conventional methods. I perceive failure as a valuable opportunity for growth. By embracing a mad perspective, we unlock the limitless potential of imagination. By doing so, we can cultivate a sense of wonder, doubt and excitement in learners igniting a fire to propel them to reach for the extraordinary. This madness leads to inventions, innovations and creativity.
Politicians and administrators who bring about transformative changes in society also embrace mad perspective as they madly explore new frontiers, uncover innovative solutions and inspire profound progress. This is what Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak calls ‘Strategic essentialism’.
One aspect of my “madness” is my unwavering belief in the power of literature. Through literary works, we can immerse ourselves in different worlds, understand the depths of human emotions, and explore the complexities of the human condition. Literature allows us to step into the shoes of others, fostering empathy and compassion. It is this understanding and connection that transcends the boundaries of our chosen fields and enriches our lives.
As I navigate through life, I know that my path will not always align with the majority. I may face criticism, ridicule, or be deemed an outcast. But in this divergence lies the beauty of the journey. By daring to think differently, I open myself up to unique experiences, profound insights, and a genuine appreciation for the nuances of existence. Yes, I am mad, but not in the sense of insanity or irrationality. I embrace this madness as a testament to my willingness to see life’s realities, challenge societal norms, and appreciate the beauty of diverse perspectives. In a world where masks are worn with the intent to conform, I choose to see beyond them and connect with the authenticity of human existence. Through literature, empathy, and an unwavering belief in the power of individuality, I strive to make a positive impact and inspire others to embrace their own madness, whatever form it may take. Thereby hangs a telling tale!
