RAMBAN: The Inter-District Union Territory Level Chess Competition was inaugurated on Sunday in Batote by Additional District Development Commissioner Ramban, Roshan Lal.
The tournament, organized by the Department of Youth Services & Sports (DYSS) under the guidance of Director General YS&S, Rajinder Singh Tara, is being held in collaboration with the Ramban Administration, led by Deputy Commissioner Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary.
As many as 170 students from across 17 districts are participating in this week-long championship in the Under-14, Under-17, and Under-19 categories. Each district is represented by five boys and five girls, and the event is being overseen by District Youth Services & Sports Officer, Jagdish Raj Sharma.
The inaugural ceremony began with the National Anthem, followed by the administration of a pledge to all participants, emphasizing sportsmanship and dedication. On the first day, 17 matches were played in the Under-14 category, which will conclude on September 23.
Matches in the Under-17 and Under-19 categories will follow in the coming days.
The winners of this tournament will have the honour of representing Jammu and Kashmir in the National Chess Competition.
