MUMBAI: The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has announced a special bonus of Rs 25 lakh for its ground staff in recognition of their role in maintaining world-class playing conditions during several marquee tournaments, including the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the T20 Mumbai League.

The decision was taken at the MCA Apex Council meeting.

According to the association, the bonus recognises the ground staff’s “tireless efforts and commitment”, whose professionalism ensured the successful conduct of multiple high-profile events at the Wankhede Stadium.

“The Apex Council appreciated the professionalism and dedication displayed by the ground staff in ensuring the successful conduct of these events,” the MCA said in a statement.

In another welfare measure, the Apex Council also approved pension support for the spouses of deceased First Class cricketers, reinforcing the association’s commitment to the welfare of the Mumbai cricket fraternity.

MCA president Ajinkya Naik said the council’s decisions reflected its commitment to both the game’s legacy and the welfare of its stakeholders.

“The Apex Council’s decisions are guided by three key principles — respect for our cricketing heritage, the welfare of our cricketing family and readiness for the future,” Naik said.

“Supporting the spouses of deceased First Class cricketers, modernising our competitions, embracing AI-led innovation and recognising the contribution of our ground staff are all steps in that direction. MCA will continue to work towards the growth and betterment of cricket in Mumbai.”
