DDMA Shopian issues weather advisory

SHOPIAN: In light of the ongoing inclement weather conditions and continuous rainfall across Kashmir, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Shopian on Friday issued a weather advisory stating that there are rising concerns of flash floods, potential cloudbursts at isolated locations, and the temporary suspension of surface transportation in the district.
These conditions may lead to a significant increase in water levels in the Nallah Rambiara and its adjacent tributaries. Given the current weather forecast by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), line departments of the district have been directed to take precautionary measures to mitigate any untoward incidents.
The Flood Control Room shall be activated immediately, and all resources must be kept in a state of readiness. Control Rooms of PWD (R&B) Circle, KPCDL, and Hydraulic Circle Shopian have been directed to be activated, and men and machinery in full readiness to respond swiftly to any emergencies.
Additionally, all Tehsildars in the Shopian district were instructed to maintain vigilance and advise the public, especially school children, within their respective jurisdictions to refrain from venturing nearby to rivers and streams due to the potential for sudden rises in water levels.
For assistance and reporting any emergency, the public has been asked to reach the DDMA Helpline at the following numbers: – 8825081928 – 7006040589 – 9149675857. The advisory has been issued by ADM Shopian, CEO, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Shopian.
