SRINAGAR: The International Islamic School Peerbagh, Srinagar, in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department, organized a significant program under the “SAKHI Women’s Protection” initiative. The event focused on addressing domestic violence and other critical issues affecting women, reinforcing a shared commitment to protecting women’s rights and supporting survivors of gender-based violence.
The event saw participation from students, teachers, and prominent figures, including education leaders and representatives from the Social Welfare Department. Together, they discussed the importance of safeguarding women’s dignity and ensuring justice for victims.
Gousia Rafiq Khan, Centre Administrator, Sakhi One Stop Centre Budgam, emphasized: “Our center is committed to providing a safe heaven for women in distress. We not only offer immediate assistance but also work towards empowering women to reclaim their lives. The success stories we have witnessed are a testament to the resilience of women and the importance of community support in combating violence against them.”
Established in 2015, the Sakhi One Stop Centre (OSC) in Budgam is a dedicated facility providing comprehensive support to women survivors of abuse, violence, and trauma. The center offers integrated services, including medical, legal, psychological, and police assistance, as well as temporary shelter for women in distress.
PSAJK President G N Var stated: “In Islam, the protection of women’s dignity is of paramount importance. We must teach and uphold these values to protect women from all forms of evil. Strict measures must be enforced to set an example for those who regularly perpetrate such crimes. The recent incident in Kolkata is a stark reminder of the need for vigilance and swift justice.”
He further emphasized, “Our country, like the rest of the world, has laws in place to protect women, but the real challenge lies in their strict implementation. It is crucial that these laws are enforced rigorously so that no more such tragic incidents occur in the future. Only through consistent and decisive action can we ensure the safety and dignity of women in our society.”
International Islamic School Chairman Tariq Ahmad Bhat added: “Education plays a crucial role in shaping the mindset of future generations. At the school level, we are dedicated to instilling values that promote respect, dignity, and protection for women. Collaborating with the Sakhi One Stop Centre is a step towards creating a safer and more just society.”
Principal IIS Umar Ahmad Bhat remarked: “Our institution stands firm in its commitment to social responsibility. By hosting this program, we aim to educate our students about the importance of supporting victims of domestic violence and ensuring that they are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.”
The event concluded with a strong message of solidarity and a call to action for all stakeholders to continue working towards a society where women are respected, protected, and empowered.
