Advanced Laparoscopic Hernia surgeries successfully performed at SDH Pampore

PAMPORE: In a significant medical achievement, two advanced laparoscopic hernia surgeries were successfully performed at Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Pampore by the General and Minimal Access Surgery Department on Tuesday.
The surgeries, known as Transabdominal Preperitoneal Repair (TAPP), are cutting-edge laparoscopic procedures that were carried out under the expert supervision of Senior Consultant Dr Altaf Ahmad and BMO Pampore Dr Asima Nazir. The surgical team, led by Dr Nawab Khan Consultant Surgeon, included Dr Yunis Surgeon Specialist, Dr Tajamul, Dr Anjum and Dr Hamid Consultant Anesthesia. They were ably assisted by the General Surgery Department’s assistants, health officials told Kashmir Reader.
The procedures were conducted under the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) Sehat scheme, ensuring that the patients received the surgeries free of cost. Special recognition is given to the dedicated Anesthesia Department for their crucial role in these high-risk surgeries. The patients, who were carefully evaluated and cleared for surgery by Cardiologist Dr Tariq Ahmad, received comprehensive pre-operative care to ensure their safety and well-being throughout the procedures.
Dr Altaf Ahmad, the Senior Consultant, praised the team’s efforts and highlighted the importance of such advanced procedures being accessible to the public under government healthcare schemes. He expressed gratitude towards the entire medical team for their dedication and expertise, which made these complex surgeries possible.
Speaking to Kashmir Reader, Dr Nawab Khan noted, “A hernia workshop was organised at Sub District Hospital Pampore under the Golden Card scheme, and the procedures were done free of cost. These advanced laparoscopic procedures would incur a significant amount in the private sector.”
He acknowledged the support provided by the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir under BMO Pampore for the logistics. Highlighting the cases, Dr Nawab added that both patients were high-risk and would typically have to travel to Srinagar for such procedures.
“The successful completion and subsequent discharge of both patients aged around 60 years and 55 years old from SDH Pampore on Wednesday mark a milestone for the hospital, showcasing its capability in performing advanced medical procedures and its commitment to providing quality healthcare to the community,” Dr Nawab said. He assured that similar procedures will be conducted in the future as well.
