One dead, 15 injured as bus overturns in Pampore

Couple among three injured in highway mishap

PAMPORE: Tragedy struck in the Saffron Town of Pampore in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday morning when a bus overturned, resulting in one death and multiple injuries.
The incident occurred when the bus, bearing registration number JK14B-9307 and traveling from Jammu to Srinagar, lost control at a sharp curve near Drangbal Pampore on the old national highway. The vehicle overturned, causing injuries to 16 passengers, predominantly laborers.
Upon receiving reports of the accident, a team from the Pampore Police Station, led by SDPO Pampore Krishan Rattan and SHO Pampore Rashid Khan, swiftly arrived at the scene. With the assistance of local residents, the injured were transported to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Pampore. Sadly, one of the injured, identified as Ram Nath Kumar from Bihar, succumbed to his injuries.
The other injured individuals were identified as Ranjeet Kumar, Tara Chand, Kumar Kotwal, Abhinav Mishra, Gayasha, Bangali Kushwah, Haru Kumar, Bandhani, Mohammad Shamsheer, Waseem Ahmad Malik, Ghulam Mohammad, Mohammad Ali, and Inayat Ali. Ten of the injured were referred to SMHS Hospital in Srinagar for further treatment, where their conditions were reported to be stable. Five injured persons were treated and discharged from SDH Pampore.
Eyewitnesses praised the quick and efficient response by the Pampore Police and local residents, who played a crucial role in rescuing the injured. Three 108 ambulances were instrumental in transporting the victims to SDH Pampore.
SDPO Pampore Krishan Rattan informed Kashmir Reader that they received the accident report around 6 am and immediately responded. The deceased’s body will be airlifted to Bihar for last rites, with the administration arranging the transport after completing the necessary medical formalities.
The Pampore Police have registered a case, FIR number 57/2024, to investigate the accident.
Highway Accident Injures Three
In a separate incident, a couple and another individual were injured in a road accident on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway in the Lethpora area of Awantipora. A car, bearing registration number JK01AG-8894 and traveling from Anantnag to Srinagar, overturned near the Lethpora graveyard.
The injured were identified as Naseema (45), wife of Tariq Rafiq Khan, Tariq Ahmad Khan (55), son of Mohammad Rafeeq Khan, both residents of Baghat Srinagar, and Nisar Ahmad Dar (38), son of Mohammad Subhan Dar of Tengpora Batmaloo. They were initially taken to SDH Pampore and later referred to Srinagar for specialized treatment.
Police officials confirmed the incident and the injuries sustained by the three individuals. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
